Remembering the Passion of Christ on Easter

Here’s an Easter message I gave back in 2004 when I was at Oasis Christian Fellowship. It’s about the Passion of Christ.

On Easter we normally celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So why on earth would I teach about the Passion of Christ instead?

I think when most of us will be shocked when we finally see Jesus face to face. Why?

Because he still bears in his body the marks of his sacrifice.

This is why he could tell doubting Thomas to put his fingers in the holes in his wrists and in his side. (John 20:27) Perhaps this is also why Peter, James, John and the other disciples didn’t recognize Jesus at first when he was cooking fish on the shore (John 21:4), and why the two disciples on the road to Emmaus also didn’t recognize him at first (Luke 24).

And later, in the book of Revelation, when John gets a glimpse into heaven and sees Jesus, how does he describe him? He saw Jesus as “a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain“. (Revelation 5:6).

To think that for all of eternity when we gaze at Jesus we will see that Lamb looking as if it had been slain, and we will have a constant reminder of just how we got there!

So maybe take some time on this Easter day to reflect back to his Passion once again.
